Well one story Victor told happened after he came to the US from Japan (where he flew the Mig-25). He had a small apartment where he was being de-briefed. He couldn't speak english yet and went to the supermarket. He bought Freedom Pads thinking they "gave American housewife freedom in her housework". He used then to wipe off the kitchen countertops, etc.
His handlers got a major kick out of that. BTW we know a young Russian woman that married a friend of ours, she speaks nearly perfect midwestern USA english! English was her major over there.
Well, an acquaintance of mine after about 2 years in the United states held a firm opinion that the digital prostate exam is computerized. Since he is a better linguist than me, it did not take me too long to disabuse him, going to the word root "digit" and reminding to him that it means "finger". But at first I pretended to agree with him and with as serious a facial expression and voice as I could master I solemnly assured him that yes, they shove the whole computer. True story, BTW.
