McNabb fires back at Owens

Associated Press

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Donovan McNabb does a better job avoiding tacklers than lingering questions about Terrell Owens.

Speaking to reporters after practice Friday, a cordial McNabb called Owens' recently released autobiography a "children's book," mocked the star receiver for saying he was misquoted in his own book and disputed some of the written allegations.

McNabb and Owens helped lead the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl during the 2004 season, but their relationship quickly deteriorated in 2005. Owens eventually was kicked off the team and signed with the Dallas Cowboys in March.

In "T.O.," which came out earlier this month, Owens mostly offers his side of his tumultuous second season in Philadelphia. McNabb joked that he should have been a co-author because Owens mentioned the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback at length in the book.

"It won't sell unless he's talking about me," McNabb said, adding that he didn't read the book and is waiting to play himself in the movie.

Owens likens McNabb to a bully who spat in his mouth as a teenager while he innocently slept on a school bus. He traces the root of the friction to when McNabb didn't throw him the ball on a play in a game during his first season with the Eagles.

Yeah, I'm steeling myself for that particular day of hard-hitting news.

I really, really wish I got NFL Network in these dorms... well, this is the last week of summer classes, but that's not a big consolation after the past couple of weeks.

The nice thing about the NFL network is that they are required to talk about every team.

What's even nicer is what they report on when talking about each team. Now they just need to ditch that "a reading from the book of T.O." segment.

Okay, I need to calm down. What do you think about our division this year?

"What about Michael Vick?"

Wait lemme get this straight you are pissed about the media coverage of Mcnabb and Owens, and you want more about vick?
LMAO Michael Vick is almost as big of a farce as Global Warning. They whored him out the first 2 or 3 seasons and tried to make everyone believe that he is going to REVOLUTIONIZE the position. BS he has revolutionize nothing he is an average quarterback. The BEST quarterbacks are pocket passers that throw with good strength and accuracy and when the pocket breaks down they can make things happen either by buying themselves more time to find someone open down field or scrambling for a 3-10 yard pick up to move the chains or make a shorter 2nd or 3rd down play. Michael Vick does not have accuracy and tends to run TOO much and takes too much responsibility on his shoulders. Big Ben is up and coming, This will be his break out year(he will play like he did in the playoffs last year; all season long. Culpepper is falling of the face of the earth. Brad Johnson completely outplayed him. Carson Plamer is still hurt, dont think that wont dominate ESPN.

It was more commentary about how Vick dominated the news, and then suddenly disappeared the second Terrell F'ing Owens said something not glowingly positive about Donovan F'ing McNabb.

Big Ben is up and coming, This will be his break out year

And last year wasn't? He won the Super Bowl. How is that NOT a break out?

Culpepper is falling of the face of the earth.

Good to know the Dolphins are still flying under the radar.

Carson Plamer is still hurt, dont think that wont dominate ESPN.

So, where are all the Palmer stories? I don't see them. We had a flurry of them for 2-3 weeks and then ESPN promptly forgot he existed.

The Jets and Bills will struggle for obvious reasons. Of course that's not to say they won't give the Pats and Dolphins tough games just because divisional rivals tend to do that.

The Patriots will win the division by a game or two over Miami. The Dolphins will either sneak in as the final wild card team or just miss out. It depends on how quickly Culpepper returns to form.

Hmm. I'm mostly in agreement, though I think the division title will be up in the air until the final game of the season. I really hate the prospect of a wild card playoff entry for the Dolphins--it's like saying all those offseason shakeups were only good for one or two more wins, and this year's Dolphins will be much improved over last year's...

Oh I think they will be as well. I just also think that if the Pats can avoid even half the injuries they endured last year they'll be pretty strong this year. If I were a Miami fan I wouldn't be the least bit disappointed with a wild card birth.

Yeah, a playoff entry is a playoff entry. Saban's said a 2006 season without a playoff spot would be a disappointment, and damn right it would be.

This is going to be a great autumn.

It's a progression.

I get excited for the first pre season games but after about a quarter I'm ready for the regular season to kick off.

Hah. Well, if nothing else, the preseason helps us figure out which players will start in the regular season. And what a regular season it'll be.

And if Culpepper starts against Pittsburgh... oh, what a season indeed.

Well only two more weeks until the HOF game. Unfortunately it involves the Eagles which will mean more stories about you know who.

In two weeks I expect to be fully immersed in my video game backlog. Let ESPN talk about Terrell F'ing Owens and Donovan F'ing Mcnabb. I'll be busy infiltrating the southern Russian swamps in Metal Gear Solid 3.

Owens is clearly still in McNabb's head. McNabb is funny and entertaining in his press conferences when he mocks Owens but McNabb should really be considering why he responds - if it didn't get under his skin then he would just laugh if off once and move on to talking about the eagles.

Owens thrives with controversy, McNabb does not.

Except for last year, McNabb has always done much better when a circus was around him. The Rush incident, The Fans Booing him during the NFL draft, FredEx, having this generations Marty Shottenheimer as his Head Coach, and he went to 5 straight NFC Title games.
