"So why aren't they used all the time? Too much weight?"
Did you see Michael Rasmussen in the final time trial last year? That's why.

I've sailed 'purt near all my life, so I recognized the importance of laminar flow / boundary layer (dimples like a golf ball to combat the problem), also the concept of lift as it relates to both sails & keels on sailboats. Cool stuff!

I am watching it again, too! too much fun! I didn't see the pre-race show this morning, though, and was shocked, I tell you, SHOCKED to hear Bobke describing Landis' recovery as "like Lazarus"!! Leilani! He does read the posts!

Assuming that the commentary is recorded live then considering it is broadcast in "prime time" then it was an editorial screwup that happened hours after they actually did the recording.
I did enjoy the part where they were doing the phony English accents making fun of Phil Ligget's prediction.
Phil definitely deserved it - at the beginning of the stage, when asked if he thought Landis could get back in the Tour, he gave a very emphatic "NO!". He even admitted he could not have predicted it. Bob Roll was sure that Landis would somehow pull it off.

That was a great article! The last story about how he'd gone over to France to meet the team just before the tour last year was AWESOME! Have you posted that before? Maybe we should post that one over at the Sunday stage thread so other people can read it if they haven't already? Thanks for linking this!
