LITCHFIELD -- A landlord's complaint about marijuana plants on a tenant's porch led police to discover the plants, crack pipes and a nude babysitter asleep with a toddler.
Ednamae Trinidad, 41, who lives at 78 Thomaston Road with her husband, two sons and 2-year-old daughter, was charged Wednesday with risk of injury to a child and possession of drug paraphernalia in a drug factory. Litchfield Superior Court Judge Richard Marano ordered Trinidad, who has an arrest record in three states, held on $15,000 bond.
Trinidad's sons, and the juvenile babysitter, were arrested earlier this month, after a call from their landlord to police sparked an investigation.
Police went to Trinidad's second-floor apartment July 2 after her landlord contacted them. Kevin Doyle told police he noticed a clapboard had fallen from his house and climbed a ladder to investigate. That's when he saw the plants growing on her porch, police said.
Police looked on the porch and found 31 pots, 14 of which had marijuana plants growing in them. They entered the house and found ants feasting on meat strewn about the floor, beetles crawling out of seat cushions and a feces-filled cat litter box, according to court documents.
Police found a 16-year-old babysitter sleeping with the toddler in a bedroom she said was Trinidad's, according to court records. The girl told police she was babysitting while Trinidad was on her way to Florida to pick up items she won over the Internet.
The landlord, Doyle, told police he thought the plants were outside of a bedroom for one of Trinidad's sons, 17-year-old Anthony Adamo. That day, police charged Anthony as well as his brother, 18-year-old Kenneth Adamo, with operating a drug factory.
Police also levied conspiracy charges against the babysitter, a juvenile.
Trinidad called the apartment while police were there and said the girl was not asked to watch her daughter.
Police called the 2-year-old's grandmother, who picked up both that child and Kenneth Adamo's 2-year-old toddler.
Trinidad, who police said goes by three aliases, complained about the shackles around her bare ankles as she approached the Court Clerk's Office to meet a bail bondsman. Police in the hallway suggested she take shorter steps.
Her sons have yet to post their bonds and await court dates this week.
Court officials did not have information about the babysitter's next court appearance. It was not clear why the babysitter was naked.
I'm not sure that it matters in the grand scheme of things but it adds spice to the head line.
