I was reading the N&O and I saw this. I think this relates as to how the public can stand by and not be interested in abuses of power by their officials and representatives.

N&O, 7/22/06 Page 1A of the Print edition (and continued on other pages) by T. Keung Hui:

The article references failing schools, their test scores, and their respective consequences via the No child left behind Act. A woman, Eleanor Hunter, has a daughter in 3rd grade at one of the schools that failed to pass one of the hurdles of the No Child Left Behind act, this quote was attributed to her:

"It's important to support your neighborhood school regardless of test scores," Hunter said. "You should make a decision based on how happy your child is."

No one - parent or otherwise - was quoted in the entire front page article that was critical of the failing schools or the school system. Other parents were quoted as saying they were "not fans" of the No child left behind act, and one said that it stigmatizes schools.

Maybe Nifong isn't so dumb in thinking he can bamboozle a Jury in granting his convictions.

Mike, when you think about it he got 2 different grand juries to indict on absolutely no credible evidence. The second GJ was after mountains of exculpatory evidence had been made public. Yeah, I know, I know, the ham sandwich thing. Just that the GJ apparently ask no questions. With the dumbing down of the education system in this country it is very possible that he could get 12 to convict on no evidence. That is what makes the judicial system so scary today. Your jurors may not be able to read, write or do basic math. But they can register to vote and sit on a jury. SCARY!!!
