Hillside High School (HHS) is a four-year public school located in Durham, North Carolina. Currently, it has an enrollment of 1500 students. It offers the International Baccalaureate program to academically motivated students.
Because of five consecutive years of composite testing scores of below 55%, Judge Howard Manning has threatened to close the school (along with 17 other North Carolina high schools) under the Leandro ruling, which states that North Carolina must provide a sound, basic education for all students.
Principal Eunice Sanders, who served for four years, decided in early 2006 to accept an administrative position within Durham Public Schools, resigning her principalship. Chosen to take her place is Earl Pappy, a principal from Richmond, VA.
