When I got a second cat, the vet warned me my first cat would no longer be a people cat but a cat's cat. Also, it's usually important to bring in a kitten not a grown cat.
My neutered male Abyssinian was almost like a surrogate mom to the kitten I got. He also spent more time with the kitten then me from then on. But, that kitten adored me too. He would go from room to room meowing and looking for me if he heard my voice on the phone.
I don't know what your neighborhood is like but an outdoor cats life expectancy is 2 years mostly because of cars. Mentally, warn your cats with images of being hit by cars to keep them out of the road.
Check out "What the Animals Tell Me" by Sonya Fitzpatrick and "Cat Talk: The Secrets of Communicating with Your Cat" also by Sonya Fitzpatrick. She had some interesting things especially about what a cat scratching post must be like to work and prevent scratching furniture.
Years ago I used the services of animal psychic Beatrice Lydecker after reading about her in Cat Fancy magazine. I only told her of my cats' names and they 'told' her things that only we knew. Around that time she was on Regis's show before it was syndicated, too. She said animals talk to her in images and we can 'talk' to them that way too. The listening to them, well Sonya's book goes into it, but way too hard work for me.
Well, he's made it eight years, so I guess my cat has "broken the record".
I just hope I can find a loving home for him.
