Forgot to mention that post 216 provides a little insight about what types of people were on the ship. Interesting IMO...
Thanks for letting us know.
As expected it takes a FReeper eyewitness to unveil the truth that many of the evacuees are not really "Americans", just as Debbie Schussel has been reporting.
In spite of all the whining by many of the Americans stranded in Lebanon (and relatives at home) the supposed lack of preparedness by the U.S. to rescue them was stacking up to be Katrina II scenario ... is falling apart.
Hey, the first group is now on the ground in Baltimore! Just touched down! Two more flights not far behind them.
Hooray!

Acck, I'm posting while eating hot buttered biscuits with grape jelly. Thought I would just be reading, not posting! Got to wash my hands and finish eating before posting again!
Had a feeling RY was on his way home. Good news morning!
Nashville is a large amphibious vessel. It isn't allowed to dock at Beirut Harbor. They first sent out 40 Marines on a smaller landing craft when they arrived.
Then the Marines helped 300 evacuees per trip get on the landing craft and go back to the boat. They did that 4 times to get the 1200 onboard the Nashville and underway to Cyprus.
Saying that was assuming that all went as expected - I haven't seen a report on it.
