yea the OpenSuse 10.1 is free... just not sure the difference between that and the Suse 10 Enterprise deal... :\

Vector Linux has KDE....although I like Gnome better...but I spend most of my time in Firefox....so that is my main criteria.....

yea I have it here and tried it but i dont remember why I ditched it.. what update utility does it use i forget.. i've tried so many different ones

OH! I remember why i ditched it... I had one of the beta versions and it didnt detect by ethernet card and I couldnt get on the internet... :D thats why i gave up on it..

So many new processors and add on hardware has come into being in the past two years, I wouldn't know where to start in becoming re-familiar. Looks like like these cpu's are becoming dirt cheap of lately.
Meanwhile Intel is dumping a lot of folks to save money.

Intel really is the way to go IF your going to be building or buying a new system when Core2Dou comes out in a couple weeks, IF you want a bargain then get in on the AMD deals in a couple weeks.. :P To sum it all up wait a couple weeks before you buy anything..

Get a Gigabyte board with the 3800+ X2.....at least a Gig of memory,....a SATA II hard drive.....and most all operating systems will fly....except maybe Vista.....

Thanks for the feedback guys. But this old fart is a long way off from purchasing another system. I have to attempt to rebuild the monies that have been lost due to long term un-employment. The job I found at Home Depot only pays $13.00/hour and I have not been full time half of my time there. So I have a lot of catch up to do before I feel justified in purchasing a new system.

I am running the GA-K8N Pro SLI I think...my manual also covers the Ultra-SLI....I really don't plan to run SLI but I was in a hurry.....sucker has everything, you can connect 4 SATA-IIc 4 SATA -I and 4 IDE devices.....has Raid on SATA - II, SATA -I and IDE....

If you are into Games....you may not see any improvement....couldn't find what the 5000+ runs at but every thing New Egg currently has is 2.4 or slower.
