Yes, Open Office is great IMHO, ALL home users should have it...

I downloaded it today. I was so shocked at how excellent it was, that it inspired me to write this post.

Sure. I use Open Office Writer all the time. It does everything Word does without that intrusive paper clip. Just be sure to save as a .doc file so Windows users can see it.

Has anyone here tried openoffice ?

I use it on machines where I don't have an MS Office license. It's fine, but it uses more resources than Office 97. I'll probably go with OO full time at home when I upgrade hardware.
