Hmmm... Notre Dame definitely improved, but picking them #1? I know that they get an automatic three spot jump in the rankings because they're Notre Dame, but I'll have to see it. Notre Dame does play some tough schools, so if they go undefeated, they'll have proved something.

UT won the national title because Chris Simms graduated. Brown loved Simms, despite continued proof that he looked great in most games, which the Horns would have won, anyway, but froze up and made critical mistakes in big games. Vince Young may have faults as a quarterback, but he looked as relaxed in the big games as he did the small ones. Colt McCoy is the redshirt, and played 2A (schools under approximately 400 total students) in Texas. Big question if he can step up to NCAA Div 1 competition.

SoCal is an excellent school, and will continue to compete. BTW, kudos to Texas and Ohio State for once again playing each other early. Few schools are willing to risk it against a non-conference rated opponent that early in the season.

My big questions:

Which team will lead in felony convictions?

Will Oregon get penalized for unsportsmanlike uniforms?

Will Auburn continue to have a cap of one athlete per sociology instructor?

Will Southern Cal continue to be the only professional football team in Los Angeles?

Has Oregon gone any of the past 5-6 seasons without a uni change???

I think (Hope) Nebraska will be top 10 material this year...we'll know after the USC game...GO BIG RED!!!!

It'd be nice to see that Big 12 title game become competitive again.

One of the other sports rags had Tennessee ranked higher than Florida or Georgia in its pre-season poll (can't remember which one, I've got a stack of em at home).

However, in their projection of how the SEC East pans out, they predict Tennessee to come in 3rd BEHIND the Gators and Dawgs.

Don't these mags have proofreaders?

Polls should not be released until the 3rd week of the season, IMHO.

The whole idea of teams playing the season to compensate for preseason polls is absurd.

The 3rd week is a good idea. By them most of the big schools have gotten the "Southwestern Connecticut Tech" vs (Insert Big Name School) out of the way on their schedules.

Agreed. Teams can get a boost by beating a highly overrated team.

I know the last few years have been a strange ride for Husker fans. It seemed strange to me just to see them lined up in passing formations so much recently. I think they're still rebuilding, but will improve on last year's performance. Texas went through a very painful rebuilding process, so I know what the Huskers are going through right now.

I don't think Oregon wore the same uniform twice last year. I didn't see all their games, but every one I saw was a different uni.
