I remember Cecil. Decent race driver, never had anything but junk. I wonder whatever happened to him, last I heard he was working for Childress but that was years ago.

As far as Kyle Petty, he got into the sport because it was expected of him. He actually became a reasonably decent race driver. But IMHO, he has never, ever, ever, ever had the fire in his belly to do this that his daddy had and that the great drivers had, and his career has reflected that.

I lost track of Cecil after seeing him on TV one time in the truck park & I can't explain why I liked him but I always followed his drive no matter where he was in the field.

In honesty, Kyle is popular for his actions off the track & deservedly so.
But I'd love to see Petty field at least one seriously good car, for any of their drivers, rather than (apparently) tuning them all to Kyles driving style.

(additional, gratuitous, comments about Indiana based NASCAR drivers and the appearance of an alternate set of rules for General Motors' drivers omitted here for the sake of decorum).
