After touring Versailles Palace and seeing it's opulence and then hearing about the abject poverty that abounded in Paris, I'm frankly surprised that the French monarchy didn't get frapped sooner.

Had I lived in those times, I would have been right there on the walls of the Bastille with the other sans culottes.

Sans culottes litterally means 'unseasoned'.

As a political movement in late 18th century France it could best be described as organized anarchy.
