Listen to his voice when he sings those words - it's not self-pity - his voice literally soars - it's rage and sadness together; not a whimper, but a bang. And then there's Running Scared. Sounds like a wussy sentiment but:

Yow - take, that, Mr. Macho! You've got the looks but I got the girl! Orbison was one of the few guys who could simultaneously be sensitive and strong in his lyrics, there's pain and suffering, but also hope and redemption. I've loved his music since I was a kid, and precisely for that reason. His songs are about love as it really is - not romanticized and fluffy, but complicated and intense.
