What? And miss some of the greatest threads because the author can reconsider their sins and erase them? :)
I miss the Scott Peterson threads... that Natalee Holloway stuff is a pretty poor substitute.
To wit:
High rise fire in Downtown Chicago

Local news is saying.."very series" high rise fire in downtown chicago...parts of Michigan avenue have been closed.
If we had a self-edit feature we wouldn't have this FR classic! :)
I like it fine. I have no trouble figuring out who's replying to whom; I don't need pictures.
tisk!
I would like the self-edit feature because the "grammar" part of my brain never works until that split second AFTER I hit the "Post" button.
Also, it would be nice to be notified of posts to you ON EACH THREAD, instead of only being notified on the main page.
Photos, Avatars would be TOLERABLE but not eve preferred, by me.
And, they'd take a ton of resources I'd rather leave to other priorities.
One of the reasons I love FR is it's clean, easy-on-the eye formatting and screens.
Go to ABOVETOPSECRET.COM if you want your eyes to wander amidst an overflow of complex graphic eye images. It's so troublesome I rarely to there any more.
I would agree about the self-edit feature. Especially for several hours or a day or so.
Priceless.
Thx.
Actually, she is.
But she hides it well from . . . the uninitiated, the unworthy, the unsympathetic, and probably, often enough from all but her hubby.
I forget what John's said about that.
???
huh?
ET: Nope I did want that feature at one time, but now understand the reason for making them non editable...

I don't remember what reason John Robinson gave for not allowing poster editing of their own posts. If you do, please remind me.
IF you are unaware, John Robinson is primarily responsible for the marvelous software that is FREEREPUBLIC.COM
Jim noted in Cortez that the sofware is not polished enough for sale to other sites. He should know better than I. I just know that of a vast number of other sites I've visited and a large number I've posted on . . .
FREEREPUBLIC.COM IS BY FAR, BY VERY FAR, THE BEST; EASIEST NAVIGATED; EASIEST ON THE EYES TO READ; MOST USER FRIENDLY; MOST QUICKLY GRASPED AND MADE USE OF; MOST SENSIBLE RANGE OF OPTIONS; . . . I could go on and on. imho, other sites are stupid for not beating John's door down to purchase the latest version--regardless of how unrefined it may be.
Yeah, I've enjoyed sites that allow one to edit one's posts. There are many reasons that would be handy. Lots of us tend to think best in iterations of after thoughts. But it's not a 'fix everything' issue.
Yeah, sites that have an IGNORE feature make ignoring easier but my brain and will power can work sufficiently well at that.
To me, a feature that allowed editing of one's own posts for 24-72 hours would be great and would allow more polished or at least more accurate archives in terms of original intent of posters. I think that would help the forum and at least the Conservative cause and the Republic. Especially in those cases where a thread or a post gets trotted around a number of news and other conservative sites.
But I think that John does a wonderful job amidst 10's of thousands of differing opinions on what site-software heaven is. He has nothing but my great admiration and wholesale praise.
Perhaps that's a 150 lb response to a 1.5 gram stimulus, Echo Talon . . . one of my habits, I guess.
If someone posts something it can not be disputed what he posted or WHEN it was posted, I was a lurker during the MemoGate deal, and remember when the newspapers were trying to say that Buchhead made the claim just minutes after the report or something? well... since FR does NOT have an edit feature, it was indisputable when he posted it, the newspapers got the time zones wrong...
That was certainly fortuitous.
I wonder if a 4-24 hour editing window would have negated that.
not sure, but also the editing feature would probably drive the mods crazy... if someone cusses somone out, waited a few seconds then erased it... the person on the recieving end would still get the nasty message ping but would possibly never be seen by the mods or other posters.
Good point.
1. Thank you for being a FReeper for more than a year. I really hate it when vanity threads are started by someone who has only been on FR for a day or twelve hours or something.
2. Thank you for putting this is General/Chat. I hate it when vanity threads are put in News/Activism.
BTW, what other site do you participate in that has such graphics?

Perhaps your short attention span would be better suited by another website.
