I've raised kittens before, although it's a bit of a chore. They're hilarious.
You're a good person to rescue them. People can be awfully mean to animals. Even the ones we eat should be given humane care.
Except chickens. I'm convinced chickens don't realize they're alive. I've tried numerous conversations, and have never even gotten a quizzical look.

Oh really. I had a pet chicken once and she would come into the house and sit on my lap and make those soft little ..pock... pock... chicken sounds. I would ask her questions and she would say "pock pock" what that means in chicken talk, I never figured out. Then she got where she refused to sleep in her cage at night and she would sleep in a tree. Then the coons ate her one night, no more pock pock.

I used to pay a quarter per show to watch chickens who did the soft shoe wearing sandpaper shoes and playing their own records; and playing basketball on their own little court (that basketball player might have been a duck, now that I think about it).
