I just saw this on Wikipedia:

Zidane describes himself as a "non-practicing Muslim".

He knows if he calls himself a non-Muslim, he is setting himself up to be killed. As famous as he is, a rebuke of Islam would be something that ignite Muslim fanatics to kill him.

On the other hand, he seems to have secularized with the rest of France (and Europe for that matter) and does not want to be known as "religious."

That's good news. Maybe more French Muslims are like that and the majority will westernize over time.

So I guess if he was practicing he would have blown the himself up in front of the Italian instead. Boy, aren't we lucky he is 'abstaining' or passing or whatever they do in that religion.

A good Muslim is an apostate Muslim.

No such thing as "moderate" Muslim in the "Religion of Peace".
