Way to improve FreeRepublic
Brain Bleeds Red ^ | Sunday, July 9th, 2006 | Brain Bleeds Red

One way to streamline the FreeRepublic experience would be to jump directly to the spot on the page where the comment is located rather than all the way at the top when you click on a comment.

I understand this can be done with the Anchor tags in HTML..i.e...making an anchor for each comment. This would streamline the comment-viewing process...

You can already.

When in the comments, click on the number (12 of 32) instead of the title. You jump right to the comment.

I was here nearly a year before I figured this out. The responses you are receiving here is precisly why noone ever asks questions. Sad really.....

Click on the number instead of the thread title in your pings....

May I suggest stopping the bleeding first and then giving it a whirl?

Oh, I thought you meant when we post a comment and it doesn't return us to the place where we were reading when we stopped to post a reply. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't - just goes to the top of the page where we came from.

It doesn't bother me, but on fast-moving live threads, it can sometimes get cumbersome. I always stay nearly a whole page behind because of having to scroll a lot.

I've heard enough bad jokes about my handle. It's symbolic. The blood is my thoughts, and their red quality means i think red state. It's not hard. And for those that think i'm mortally wounded, I'm fine. I'd rather know now than later.

OK, minor embarrassment for BBR but kudos for making the attempt. Why NOT put up a 'suggestions' forum for improving FR, at least for a while? There are many websites where posting and searching comments is a lot easier than it is here.

I agree. The better FreeRepublic is, the more powerful the conservative force is. The more powerful the conservative force is, the easier it will be to defeat the liberal force.

While you at it, the feature I want is to be able to see a poster's sign on date (as a flyby hint) when browsing posts, e.g. here.

The user's sign on date is the alt tag for the name. Place your cursor over the poster of interest's name and leave it there for a moment or two.

Improvements needed on Free Republic:

1. A dedicated sidebar for Zots and Opuses (Opii?).

2. A moratorium on suggestions by newbies until they are oldbies.

In the immortal words of Owner and Operator Jim Robinson, "That is all."
