Death for betrayal is too kind. The damages and the permanent suffering that they have wreaked on innocents is impossible to make reparations for. Punishment and penalties ought to be severe and without end.

That said this kid was not only not damaged, but he now has bragging rights for the next few years. There were a few teachers in my HS that I would have given my left one to bang.
