Wrestling stars busted in Hanging Rock (RVD, Sabu, & Drugs)

HANGING ROCK — Two wrestling superstars from Extreme Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment may be tough in the ring, but they didn’t have enough muscle to escape drug charges after being stopped Sunday night by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Robert Alex Szatowski, aka WWE and ECW champion Rob Van Dam, and Terry Michael Brunk, aka Sabu, also a former ECW champion, were pulled over on U.S. 52, near Patrick Street in Hanging Rock at about 10:15 p.m. The two were apparently driving from their performances at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena earlier in the evening.

According to the OSHP, Szatowski was initially stopped for speeding. When troopers approached his vehicle, they smelled marijuana and performed a search. Troopers found the wrestler in possession of 18 grams of marijuana and five Vicodin, prescription pain pills. Brunk was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and also had nine pills that were not immediately identifiable, but were known to be controlled substances, according to the OSHP. Both were cited and posted bond at the scene.

Szatowski, of Battle Creek, Mich., has had a long, successful career with both the WWE and ECW. In addition to being the current champion of both, he has been intercontinental champion six times, hardcore champion four times and has been a part of several championship tag team duos.

He is scheduled to wrestle tonight on WWE Raw and is also wrestling Tuesday night to retain his WWE and ECW titles during the “Extreme Rules Match” on the Sci-Fi channel.

Brunk, who lists his hometown as Bombay, India, on the WWE Web site, has also had a successful career with the ECW, earning world heavyweight championship titles two times and tag team championship honors three times.

Both Brunk and Szatowski are scheduled to appear at 10 a.m. Thursday in Ironton Municipal Court. Both wrestlers won their matches last night in Huntington, W.Va. Van Dam defeated the Big Show and Sabu defeated Justin Credible.

Vinnie Mac's WWE Champion busted for the old maryjane, as well as painkillers. So soon after the death of Eddie , too.

Does he take the WWE and ECW strap off RVD right away? Or does this make RVD and Sabu more popular?

"18 grams of marijuana and five Vicodin, prescription pain pills."

Pffft. He could get in some pretty bad trouble for the Vicodin though, if they wanted to push it. Chances are they will just get fines and or probation.

Swerve! Turns on HitmanLV and hits him with a folding chair!

*just kidding*

I'll get my slobberknocker of a wrasslin' ping list in a second.

I'm shocked... SHOCKED... that Rob Van Dam gets caught with the whacky tobaccy... what's next... pulling over Hacksaw Jim Duggan and the Iron Shiek? (oh yeah, that happened back in the day) ;-)

The word is that RVD and Sabu will perform as previously scripted and after this week they'll come to a decision.

I'm not concerned about the legal consequences, as I think you are right they won't be severe. Thing is the WWE Champion is involved: I'm more interested in what the WWE will do.

I think RVD was just acting consistent with his character! Vinnie Mac likes that, right? RVD 420! :-)

RVD may be losing the belt tonight.

By the way, what's up with the headline. I didn't see in the article about the hanging of Duane "Rocky Maiavia" Johnson. Haven't seen anybody hung in the WWE since Bossman (RIP)

Well there's a three way match tonight between Cena RVD and Edge. If WWE sticks to their own rules, they have to fire RVD and Sabu. And it looks like Angle is taking some time off too. Really hurts the ECW brand just after they reintroduced it. Sci-Fi can't be too happy about this

Wait a minute - they were using false names too? I am gobsmacked. Next thing they'll tell us is that Sabu isn't really from India after all...

RVD will lose the belts but I don't know how much longer he was slated to hang onto them anyway. McMahon has instituted a new drug policy since Guerrero died and this might be just a little too public to sweep under the mat. Or not.

I'm oldschool: this is not the kind of press Vinnie Mac needs, especially after the death of Eddie only a few months ago. Get the WWE belt off him immediately, and maybe tonight.

I hope Edge gets it: he deserves a real shot as champ. At this point, even Cena is preferable to this bad press.

RVD is also ECW champ and I don't know who on that roster he can credibly drop it to. Angle is the obvious choice but I hear he is banged up and may be taking some time off, and in any event I don't think it's wise for the ECW title to go to a WWE to ECW convert. Should be an ECW guy - but the ranks are thin (especially since his pal Sabu was busted alongside RVD!).

Would be something to see RVD drop the WWE title tonight, and the ECW title tomorrow night.

Yea, this is a test of how serious Vinnie Mac is just a few short months after Eddie's death.

I share your concerns exactly for the ECW brand. I'm stumped as to who should get the ECW belt - it shouldn't go to a WWE convert (Angle, Big Show) but nobody else on the brand (except Sabu) is champion material. Wish Lance Storm signed that 3 year deal but he doesn't want to deal with a fulltime schedule, and who can blame him?
