MADISON, Ind. - A car plowed into a crowd Sunday at a speedboat race on the Ohio River, sending as many as a dozen people to a hospital, according to reports.
The car plunged into the river and the Madison Regatta was halted, The Madison Courier reported.
Between eight and 12 people were transported to a hospital, the newspaper reported. Four people were airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville, Ky., television station WHAS reported.
Madison police Capt. Dan Stephan told The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., that the driver said he had passed out at the wheel.
Madison is in southeast Indiana, midway between Louisville, Ky., and Cincinnati. The annual boat race draws thousands of people to the riverside community of about 13,000 every Fourth of July weekend.
