A daytime gabfest for housewives and the unemployed isn't quite the same as network news. Allowing an unwanted colleague the opportunity to save face doesn't strike me as a major sin.
Now she acknowledges how obnoxious she had come to be seen by her network, and at the same time throws dirt on Walters and the network. I can't see how playing the loose cannon will encourage future potential employers to queue up. Perhaps she and Dan Rather can co-host somewhere.

"Longtime ABC newswoman Walters has confirmed the intended deception"
Note: "Longtime ABC newswoman Walters"
This is no small thing. The credibility of a "Longtime ABC newswoman" has been smashed to pieces. She can play the "I was only being sympathetic" card, but the bottom line is she lied.
