The quarterfinal round concludes with a pair of enticing match-ups. The day's first match pits England against Portugal (10:30 a.m. ET, ABC) in Gelsenkirchen, while a rematch of the 1998 final between Brazil and France (3:00 p.m. ET, ESPN) will wrap the Round of 8.

If the Brits really did drink all that beer, my hat's off to them. But I suspect the Germans were drinking more than their normal share, and the Brits only put them over the top.
Hopefully your trip was a success. I have much sympathy for the Dutch, due to good contacts with them. The rivalry has become more and more a friendly one. In the 70´s, 80´s and early 90´s real clashes occurred, but since then it´s more a traditional, humorous rivalry. Just like the relationship Cologne - Düsseldorf.
LOL at Ballack there, he looks like he's performing on Broadway, or something.
Off topic and forgive my limey ignorance -- but why does the union jack sit in the top left corner of the Hawaii flag?
Anyway, I hope it means you are supporting England!
Hawaii was a British Colony at one time, it was founded by British explorer James Cook.
Churchill speech superb!
>> Not enough for a penalty, agreed. I wouldn't say he overdid the foul as it was a foul. But it wasn't enough to make such a drastic call for a penalty. <<
It was much more flagrant than the call against Australia that gave Italy the game.
Ah. But then all the U.S. was -- and the other states don't fly the union jack.
I know it was slightly different, obviously, to mainland America. I'm just surprised that an emblem of the colonial past was not consigned to history.
I'll have to look again at the replay. From the front it looks like Maxi takes a tap on one leg. Is it enough for him to go down or does he just go with it in the hope of a call.
Very hard to tell and probably more difficult in viewing from the back, the ref's view. Italy's penalty was easier because is was a side view in a clear path of the ref's vision.
Based on where Maxi was in the box near the touchline, I can't imagine the ref felt compelled to call a penalty. But he missed it by going so extreme the other way.
I can't help but feel bad for Argentina.

How do they drink all that beer and still remember all those lyrics?
I think it's bad news for the English game
We're not creative enough, and we're not positive enough
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home...
(We'll go on getting bad results, getting bad results..)
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
Everyone seems to know the score
They've seen it all before
They just know
They're so sure
That England's Gonna throw it away
Gonna blow it away
But I know they can play
'Cause I remember...
Three Lions on a shirt
Jules Rimet still gleaming
Thirty years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming
So many jokes, so many sneers
But all those oh-so-nears
Wear you down
Through the years
But I still see that tackle by Moore
And when Lineker scored
Bobby belting the ball
And Nobby Dancing
Three Lions on a shirt
Jules Rimet still gleaming
Thirty years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming
(England have done it, in the last minute of extra time)
(What a save, good old England, England who couldn't play football, England have got it in the bag )
I know that was then
But it could be again
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
(England have done it)
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home
Three Lions on a shirt
Jules Rimet still gleaming
Thirty years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming
Meanwhile, Brent Musburger ruins the (pre-game) broadcast of yet another sport.
Who will free us from this mushmouth?
It's a special English skill. How do you think we won the war?
There were ten German bombers in the air,
There were ten German bombers in the air,
There were ten German bombers, Ten German bombers,
There were ten German bombers in the air,
And the RAF from England shot one down,
And the RAF from England shot one down,
And the RAF from England, The RAF from England,
And the RAF from England shot one down,
And so on till...
There were no German bombers in the air,
There were no German bombers in the air,
There were no German bombers, No German bombers,
There were no German bombers in the air,
'Cos the RAF from England shot them down,
'Cos the RAF from England shot them down,
'Cos the RAF from England, The RAF from England,
'Cos the RAF from England shot them down.
LOL True.
You did have a bit of help, though...
A lot of good Polish Pilots were in the "RAF From England."
