Looks as though (hopefully) inadvertant contact with a spectator may have caused the cut.

Evidently it was an idiotic fan with one of those big hand doohickies that sliced his arm. Sick. If tour organizers can't protect their riders, this race is toast, for me at least. It's just shameful these crowds can hurt the atheletes like this (remember Lance a couple of years ago?).

On the bright side, this gives Big George the yellow.
