Acapulco, Mexico, Jun 30 (EFE).- This world-renowned resort city on Mexico's Pacific coast is being repeatedly shocked by the discovery of menacingly placed human heads separated from slain individuals linked to drug-trafficking or the fighting of that crime.
Authorities found Friday two human heads in front of a government office and later located the headless bodies in a vacant lot in Acapulco, the scene in recent weeks of clashes between drug traffickers and police. The two heads were found before dawn outside the offices of the Finance Secretariat of the Guerrero state government in the vicinity of La Garita, authorities said.
That gruesome find came only a few hours after the discovery on Thursday of a human head with a message on a card presumably meant for a rival group of hired killers. In the place where the two heads were found Friday, a note was found that said, "A very filthy message so you learn a little respect," and was signed only with the letter "Z." The message seemed to come from the Gulf drug cartel's dreaded death squad known as the Zetas, whom authorities suspect of being partly made up of former soldiers from Mexico and from Guatemala's one-time elite corps known as the "kaibiles." The gory remains were found just a short distance from the place where in mid-April the heads of Commander Mario Nuñez and police agent Jose Alberto Ibarra were found hanging.
One of the heads found Friday had the eyes and mouth taped shut, while the other had one eye covered in the same way.
Close to the place where the heads were discovered, police found hours later in another vacant lot in the La Garita neighborhood the two headless bodies wrapped in blankets and stuffed down among black trash bags.
