Major League Soccer which is considered a niche league in America right now will eventually overtake the NBA and the NHL. New stadiums going up everywhere, attendance just as high as NHL or NBA games, it's a given soccer will become popular in the USA eventually.

I think as more MLS teams spring up, that soccer will begin to become a lot more popular. People need to 'team' to root for. Hockey was non-existant here in NC 10 years ago. That's all I've heard about the last 2 months.

...it's a given soccer will become popular in the USA eventually. I heard these exact words some 30 years ago. I suppose it depends on what one's definition of eventually is.

Attendance just as high as NHL or NBA games? You must be talking per game, not per season. A decent NBA team will draw 600,000 people per year (15,000 x 41 home games) or more. The best will sell 20,000 tickets a game or more.
