Anyone see that Portugal game yesterday? What a mess!

That wasn't a game, that was just a fight disguised as a football match.

I can't wait to see Portugal and Netherlands play again in a meaningful match... it'll be a blood fued by now...

I'm no fan of the Dutch under any circumstances, but this was a new low for them. My biggest peeve is all of the diving. It was so blatant, and I wonder if their coach told them to do that. It wouldn't surprise me.

I was originally rooting for England to win the whole World Cup, against Germany in a final, but now I want Portugal to advance just on the fact that they were royally screwed by the Dutch and the Ref.

I just took a quick look at your profile, and saw you are German. Your team is absolutely amazing. I very much hope they make it into the finals, they deserve it.

I am also happy to see all of the German patriotism. That is exactly what Germany needs right now.

I think that's why the USA didn't do very well in Germany, they haven't yet mastered the fine art of diving.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the yellow cards calm down a bit. This always happens at World Cups – refs start handing them out left right and centre but calm down a bit when the uproar occurs.

I think it's more they haven't mastered the basic skill of getting the goal in the opposing team's net.

Thank you. Yes, watching them is fun, especially after so many years of being embarrassed by the sheer incompetence of past teams. It has not become totally clear yet how strong they really are, though: We'll see on Friday, when they play Argentina. But even if they lose that one, this team looks as if it has the potential to mature and become even much stronger.

We've been suffering long enough. At last, I am confident that the bad times are over.

I am also happy to see all of the German patriotism. That is exactly what Germany needs right now.
Yes, that is nice to watch, too. You see flags everywhere, and (almost) everybody is happy to cheer the German team on. You see, it wasn't always like that. Back in the 1990s, all the lefties and Green party types used to make a point of always being against the German team. On their demonstrations, they held up signs like “Deutschland verrecke!” (Croak, Germany!), so that didn't come as a big surprise to anyone, of course. The lefties are still there, of course, but they somehow feel that they wouldn't get any sympathies anymore by displaying their hatred for Germany. Perhaps we're finally observing the neurotic relationship of Germans to their own nation becoming normal again.

Wait a minute. Germany has a team? I thought 11 random thugs out of the crowd just put on German uniforms to beat down other teams. Watching Germany play is like watching a rugby match...Go England ;)

I'm kidding. Germany did great and I hopefully look forward to the final

This time tomorrow I'll be in Germany preparing to watch the first match of the day, Delta and Air France willing.

Unfortunately it will be at a pub with colleagues, not at the stadium! At least I'll have better beer to drink.

Why do I get the feeling you would say that regardless of the color?
