Anyone tried Linspire (Formerly Lindows)?

Hello. I was thinking about trying the Linspire OS.
It looks pretty neat but I'm not willing to shell out the dough if fellow Freepers think it sucks.
Let me know what you think.

Based on the reviews I've read, the experience in using it, and knowing that it went through at least 9 different beta versions and two release candidates (IIRC far more than the past four releases).

I currently run 10.1 and have had nothing but grief. It's taken a lot of hacking to ensure the Internet, volume control, YaST, etc. run correctly.

Personally, I've had to install and remove installation sources by rm -rf because YaST doesn't do it (one problem that still shows up from the betas). My Internet configuration required a lot of playing around with ifconfig--and it wiped out my Tun/tap device (still can't get it set up and configured). And finally, I had to play around with alsaconfig and several reboots to get ALSA to work correctly (though the volume doesn't work like it did in previous Suse releases).

Have been a Suse user since 9.1--heck that's how I got started on Linux...8^)

I'd recommend upgrading to 10.0. That wasn't bad at all.

Thanks for the reply. I've run SuSE since 6.4 and have generally been very pleased.

I've learned to be leery of *.0 releases and generally wait for the *.1 release before upgrades to avoid the same types of problems you describe.

Weird that 10.0 would be OK but 10.1 was problem. But stranger things have happened.

I have Linspire Five-0 V2 installed on my desktop. REALLY nice distro, considering the fact that the basic CNR service is now free. I just hope they update the version of Amarok they have in the CNR Warehouse to 1.4.3 (current version is 1.3.8 or 1.3.9) since podcast support in 1.4.x is much better than in 1.3.x.
