The U.S. national team goes into Thursday's Group E finale against Ghana (9:55 a.m. ET, ESPN) knowing that it must come up with a win to have any chance of moving to the Round of 16.

All four teams in Group E, including the USA, still have a chance to advance. The U.S. must beat a tough Ghana side to have any chance of moving to the knockout phase. Should Bruce Arena's team be able to secure three points against the Africans, whom they meet at 9:55 a.m. ET on ESPN, they will need Italy to beat the Czech Republic in a simultaneous match, which can be seen live on ESPN2. The U.S. is not mathematically eliminated with a Czech draw or win, but will need a big victory over Ghana to avoid being eliminated on goal difference.

I thought so as well, but at least it isn't on us.

Maybe he's channeling the Uruguyuan ref. Sheesh

Did I hear on radio "intentional hand ball" Is that right?? Sounds like the referee is calling it very tight. Does that favor one or the other team?

Seems like it favours the Ghanans. I didn't see an intentional handball and the other penalty kick in front of our goal was their fault I think.

Ghana seems out of sync or they just haven't gotten warm yet. Hmmm...

U.S. yellow card. This one may be justified.

You did not miss anything. It was a very boring game, they went through the motions and nothing else. Predictable and explainable, but still disappointing.

I love my DVR from Comcast/Motorola, with 2 tuners it can record now both games the same time. My only problem is to avoid spoilers. So I can't stick to this thread, unfortunately. Unfortunately, because its so refreshing to see so many fellow freepers being a) interested in the game I like the most, and b) being so knowledgeable in it.

So far looks like the Czechs are dominating Italy, 4 shots to 0.

Any overall impressions yet? Is either side dominating?

Oh. Well, if the Czechs win I hope they win 4-0 or something like that.
