Nifong press release and email...

I think it's reprehensible that Coach K isn't taking sides with the boys.
His failure to stand tall on the right side of this case should strike fear into the hearts of the players he coaches. He's a political wimp with no balls.
By their standards, I guess it is good, inasmuch as he wasn't out murdering anybody - just burglarizing. SOP.
I've said all along there will be no help coming from the state level. Neither the governor nor the AG are going to help. The only place from which help might come is the feds.
NG will never overtly admit that Mangum is a liar and, more importantly, that Nifong is a corrupt, petty, evil bastard who has no business setting foot into a court of law.
That, in and of itself, is her own spin.
Yes, most definitely.
And anybody who says lack of evidence is no reason to dismiss charges needs to be asked how that squares with the requirement for probable cause to arrest in the first place.
What a colossal MORON.
They might if the DA is pressuring them. They might if the DA reminds that victim that she got a great deal when she was in trouble and it's time to pay the piper. You know - just like the mafia operates. They do you a favor or loan you money when you need it. Then, when they want something from you, you pay them back - in spades.
Keeping it low-key would not have served his (Nifong's) political needs at the time.
Dead on right, pep.
This is why at least Reade should file a civil suit against Mangum - force her to blame Nifong for carrying the false charges to indictment.
I imagine Social Services receive subpoenas frequently in connection with child custody cases and related civil matters. There's no reason why their records pertaining to Mangum and her kids shouldn't be available. If a motion to quash is filed, the defense can easily argue that her status as a parent with that agency would present a motive for her to lie about what all transpired that night in order to get out of being committed and drug-tested.
I think her computer would be a treasure trove of information.
I want to know why the cops seized it.
Yes, and Hammer or Ted jumped in with something about the defense doesn't want the medical record unsealed because it's damaging to their case. The truth is there is a defense motion pending to have it unsealed and that they submitted it under seal simply because it's a medical record which presents different privacy concerns than other kinds of records (and most likely they didn't want to piss the judge off by submitting it unsealed).
Cops can completely sandbag a DA if they want to. If Nifong hangs them out to dry on this case, he should expect a lot of problems from them in future cases.
It is, yes.
I'll confirm it. I remember it specifically. It's an important point.
I hope Stephens has a big, fat deductible.
There's a certain ironic justice to having an illegal alien run into a judge and cause him some damage.
You trying to turn our thread into a Illegals thread...... ;)
