The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

You take him past a pig and you'll see one. LOL! The best racking he's ever done in his life was right after I made him go past a pig at Elkmont. His feet were barely touching the ground.

We saw some wild pigs in GA and he only walked sideways by them. They were pretty small and scurried off pretty quickly. Would have loved to get some pictures of them.

Cool! Sounds like he got over it then. This is the one he saw at Elkmont, right before he did a hasty 'Exit Stage Right'...

Those are quite a bit bigger than the ones we saw in GA.

Speaking of pigs, somebody sent me this one, and although I've since found out that the story is somewhat fabricated, it's still cute...

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth. The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine..

The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve. After checking with many other zoos across the country, The depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother.

The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only "orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of wiener pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.

Would they become cubs or pork chops?????????????

Take a look ...

Pigs are pretty scary! :~D

I remember when Bob got some piglets, it was several days before the horse would even approach the area near the pig pen.

Course, if'n it were Bay, he'd be blowing at that plastic by the bucket, not sure he'd see the pig :~)

Sounds like a great idea:)

I'm down here in town, just ate a corn dog, fixing to get a funnel cake:)

It rained a bit, but looks like it's done now so the festival is on the go. I want to get my dinner done so I don't have to stand in lines.

I've got pictures, I'll post later. Mack isn't set up here to do picutes.

It might be, if they don't often travel...

Are you going to be at that one?

LOL! I thought of you when I was falling down and catching myself on my wrist!

Really, it feels fine. Just a little bruised and sore to the touch. Works just fine and didn't give me a problem tossing the rest of those hay bales around.

Please don't send the curse my way! ;)

I don't mind the rat snakes. They are kind of fascinating actually. I see them all the time around the yard and house. One of them laid eggs underneath the wood pile one year.

All we have are Garter snakes here... little things. I have a little experience with rattlers from time in AZ, and only then as a curious tourist... so snakes are definately outside my comfort zone :~)

Give those rattlers a wide berth. I have been too close a few times and was not very comfortable with the situations. I did read where rat snakes will rattle their tales against stuff to simulate the sound of a rattlesnake. They are similar in coloration.

Oh I did! We went walking with big sticks to peek under bushes with when we walked through them. "Don't walk where you can't see your feet" they said. Don't have to tell me twice :~)

I'm enjoying the food to much:) I've got to quit. I think I've gained 10 lbs since hurting my arm. sigh, just when I was wanting to loose.

Mack is sitting out on the step visiting with his cornies. I'm tired of them.

I've got to go get some picutres before it gets dark.
