The U.S. national team faces a must-win situation Saturday against Italy (2:30 p.m. ET, ABC). The U.S. lineup could see some changes, including adding Eddie Johnson. Czech Republic and Ghana play earlier in the day (11:30 a.m., ABC), while Portugal advanced by beating Iran 2-0.

Well true, Angola has to find a way to score a goal first, I see a 0-0 game there. But if Iran just goes through the motions, anything is possible.
Plus, since many Angolans play in Portugal, the Portugese might be motivated to help out their former colony.
That's the upside with an Iranian win. So we can root for them in their last match.
Then see who reports on the protests against the regime.
I was thinking the same when Chatami was elected President, but since AhjmawipeIsraelloff is their leader, I fear Iran´s lost.
The American team was pulled out of their luxury hotel and have been training at a US military base.
While on the other hand the Italian players have admitted they have no idea who the Americans are.
The Italians might not know anything about our guys but they are going to get an introduction they will never forget!
My confidence is high!
We have yet to see a real major upset in the tournament, why not the US today?
Iran is not lost as China is not lost. But when you have governments that are willing to kill many of their citizens, there's not much room to hope of their demise.
And these are governments that have no qualms with killing their citizens.
Portugal does need to tie or beat Mexico to win the group though. Seedings in second round do matter.
Czech Republic is getting short up front with no Baros or Koller, and they are playing a 4-5-1, so it looks like they are planning on playing safe against Ghana.
Argentina is looking like world beaters! Their energy is way above that of other teams at present. Perhaps the USA team can learn from that and play like their future depends upon going flat out at their opponents ... it does yaknow.
I'm glad your confidence is high. This looks like a quality Italian team. A formidable challenge no matter who the opponent would be.
I'm praying for respect. Anything else is a bonus. I would love to see the US play well today.
We (GERMANY!!!) will knock Argentina out - lately in BERLIN on July 9th! :-)
´54 x ´74 - 1990 = 2006
But you´re right, they´re VERY strong.
I don't see Germany doing well unless Ballack and their Polish striker go on a hot streak.
I'm looking for some crow to be eater against a nice Ecuador side and then some salt into the raw wound with a nice defeat at the hands of England.
Oh, that would be lovely.
She's a 10 all right.
I think Argentina beat Bulgaria 5-1 in the group stages in 1998 before flaming out. Then they tanked in 2002 of course. Argentina is very talented, but they can easily lose before the semi-finals on a bad day. This should be an open cup. I see Italy, Czech, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Germany (because they are hosts) all potentially winning this thing.
Georgio just shot down Brent Hamburger in flames.
Georgio says Team USA is finished and will lose 2-0 or 3-0.
He also said Brazil are the clear favorites, then Argentina, then Italy -- rest are rubbish.
Won´t happen. We´ll win against Ecuador and some other nation will have to send England home. Btw, England didn´t look too good. While Germany had strong teams (the fresh Costa Ricans were highly motivated in the opening match, and the Poles had their final against us), England narrowly won against Paraguy and waited 80 minutes for a goal against Trinidad & Tobago.
But you're right, they're VERY strong.Remember 1990? “Diego, Diego: HA HA HA!”
