On balance, yes. England were stymied throughout the first half. They livened up in the 2nd half, especially when Rooney and Lennon came in, but part of this was just the elderly T&T side getting tired. T&T had three near goals—one took a miracle save, another called offside. Anyway, good to see England finally finish strong.

They must play better. From the Daily Mail:

“But England remain a team in urgent need of improvement. Even if a passage to the knock-out stages is now secure, their chances of progressing beyond that appear remote, with either Germany or Ecuador waiting.

"'We can win without Rooney,' was the bold declaration of Eriksson and his players before the tournament began.

“Keep playing like this and winning the World Cup with Rooney will prove impossible.”
