Call me crazy, but I also have a feeling that the Aussies could produce an upset in that game.
Looking forward to the game.
Having not seen your snoring girlfriend, I'm reluctant to even offer my cat.
My cat is the coolest. :)
You want a shock. Go with Ghana to make it to the second round.
There you have it.
I'm just praying for some respectful play from the US tomorrow.
Climbing so high on the football mountain I don't want to see it completely dashed, like in 98. That was just awful with the team infighting with Sampson.
I want to see the base of the next generation develop for Team USA's future.
Eddie is the future.
I don't think Brazil is invincible in this tournament but I don't think the Aussies will beat them.
The problem the Aussies have is they don't play anybody in their qualifying matches -- unless you count the Solomon Islands.
(Don't even mention the Kiwis -- who lost out to the Solomon Islands!)
I think it's even less likely that Ghana will beat the Czech Republic...
Okay, it's official.
I'm calling you crazy.
How does an Aussie stack up against such a technical wizard like Brazil?
Maybe to hold some defense but offense? I don't see it.
Having said that, I like the Aussies, just not against Brazil.
Brazil breaks out of their shell: 2-0.
Aussies had to beat Uruguay in a home-and-home to get in. Uruguay is no slouch.
You mean Uruguay, the butchers of South America?
I agree -- PLAY EDDIE!!
Look -- if Eddie were to score two against Italy it would turn this whole tournament around for the USA. Eddie has shown he can find the back of the net, and he was the only cat out there who worried the Czechs.
The game tommorrow is on a Saturday and will have a BIG home audience. It's time for Team USA to get its head out of its butt and start playing. I don't care if we get ten yellow cards -- let's at least look like we actually want to win the freaking game.
Okay, we won't have long to wait. But I bet you when it's all said and done, Ghana will have garnered many more accolades than Portugal if not advance outright?
But you can stick with Angola. In the big scheme of things, today is their day.
Let them enjoy!
True, the game is near Rammstein, so there should be a heavy US turnout.
Win or lose, I think we'll see a good effort from the US.
Couldn't agree with you enough. Eddie is our lone wildcard. He has the pace that can surprise an Italian defender.
Other than that, we don't offer much of any surprises. Is O'Brien healthy? Who else can shoot the ball outside the box with any hope of beating Buffon?
Yes, 10 cards, red cards, whatever it takes. As long as at the end of the day, Italy walks off the field with the respect Germany showed in the 2002 Quarterfinal.
That's what I want more than anything.
Really hope you're right and it's enough for a decent result.
Well, I will agree Uruguay could probably take down the Solomon Islands.
We have you down for calling your shot for the Aussies. If the Aussies do it you'll be proclaimed a genius.
Normally I'd say you are crazy -- but Brazil just did not look good in that first game and I think Ronaldo is past his sell-by date. Of course, Ronaldo could easily score a hat trick and Brazil could wipe out the Aussies like Argentina did Serbia & Montenegro.
Although I think the best African performers so far have been Ivory Coast.
And I'm happy to be proved wrong on Angola.
I've always wanted to lose a girlfriend in a bet...
Ramstein is the Airbase. Rammstein is the German group that performs Feuer Frei!
BANG! BANG!
I'm just thinking in terms of who would be the "feel good" story of the WC, like Senegal or even the US was in 2002. The Aussies just seem to have that vibe. And beating Japan was no small feat, especially beating them 3-1.
Okay, I loved the Ivory Coast and wish they had done just a bit better.
Good luck in your betting. :)
Oh, I just figured the band took their name from the base.
The "feel good" story of the WC was the pic of those two Swedish chicks celebrating with a kiss posted on yesterday's thread.
I wonder how they would celebrate a WC Championship?
Just wanted to say thank you very much for setting up and managing these World Cup threads. They're great and the first thing I check every morning.
