It is a parent's responsibility to teach their girls and boys how to read (whether they want to or not).

British boys' schools have gone down quite a bit since the days of caning and buggery.

The former President of Harvard University is "former" because of comments, like these, that point out innate differences between boys and girls.

I still think a boys school and separate though equal girls school would significantly help BOTH genders. Of course I'll be sent straight to hell for that comment, but hey, what do I know?

Men appreciate women who read books.

Preferably while naked and bouncing on a trampoline.

My ex-boyfriend was proud of the fact that in 5 years he had never read any book that wasn't required reading for one of his classes. And yes, he was in college at this point. He was also a moron.

Wilbur Smith is now more read by women than men, even though his plots are about crag-jawed South Africans who spend their time shooting hippos, foiling hijacks, crashing Israeli fighter planes and wresting golf-ball sized diamonds from the sunbaked veld.

Sounds zippy! I'm adding Wilbur Smith to my library list!

Women are now outreading men in virtually every category.

Not terribly suprising; it would seem to hook in with the letter-writing
of women as well.
When C.S. Lewis said that the majority of the correspondence he got was
from female readers...he noted that women are "more epistolary" than men.
