The mainstream media does not want you to know about Linux. They had a story the other day on Fox News' "Studio B" show, with Shep talking to some computer know-it-all about security risks in Windows, and NOT ONCE did they talk about alternative operating systems...they didn't mention that you have other options such as Mac OS X or Linux.
Like I've said before...money talk$, and bull$h!t walks. Even Fox News is now MSM.

I ran across Linus back in 1991 and we could see he was on to something. Linux was pretty cool from the beginning. It just gets better and better and I've never had a Linux box fail due to the OS. I recall we had one Slackware machine with external DPT drives that was under load most of the time. The only reason we shut it down was to move it and at that time it had an uptime of about 3 years.
Right now I'm using xandros on one of my decktops and it's pretty cool.

More accurately, the mainstream media does not know about Linux. But that's not a big loss--Linux has a long time left to bake before it becomes a viable contender to the desktop.
The best breakdown of computer OS distribution would ideally be OS X on the home desktop, Linux or BSD on servers, and a severely locked-down Windows at most businesses.
