The Daily Kos "Troll Policy"
Daily Kos ^

Posted on 06/15/2006 10:07:52 AM PDT by xpertskir

I have recently joined "The Daily Kos". I have done so to pursue honest, reasonable, and rational debate. I have started posting on the site and became aware of an interesting and disgusting policy on. The troll policy is described as follows in the FAQ:

"Dealing with trolls Trolling is a sad reality of internet life. Most trolls tend to be blatant, posting comments or diaries that are clearly intended to provoke an angry response. Other trollish messages are posted simply to disrupt the conversation in a diary. Directly replying to the content of a trollish message is usually a waste of time; trolls tend not to be interested in actual debate. There are two methods in wide use to help keep the community as troll-free as possible. The first is troll-rating comments. Trusted Users (see above) can give comments a rating of troll. If a comment has been rated by two or more users, and there are more troll ratings than recommends, then that comment (and all replies to it) are automatically hidden. Hidden comments and their responses can only be seen by Trusted Users. Unfortunately, there is no similar mechanism for hiding trollish diaries. Instead of writing detailed rebuttals of whatever claims or argument the troll is making, the standard response to a troll diary is to post comments containing recipes for tasty dishes. Plenty of examples can be found in the Troll Diary tag. An entire cookbook of recipes has been collected and is being sold as a fundraiser."

I have been given this "troll rating" even though I have not used swear words or attacked other users peronally. I suppose it should not surprise me that these moonbats would want to censor and control the "content" that they read. I forgot that they only like the 1st ammendment when it protects their speech. I have emailed "Kos" and asked him about the policy. I find this policy absolutely ridiculous and am happy that Free Republic does not have a policy such as this, NO MATTER how unpopular the post may be.

FYI my name on The Kos is "clintonliedandpeopledied"

WOW I have just realized that Free Republic does have a similar policy. In trying to post they would not let me use www.dailykos.com which is why I used aol.com.

"And you had concepts such as censorship completely wrong in the process."

Only slightly. Instead of an entity(the web site administrator) choosing which speech is acceptable and what is not the users do. However the administrator enables them to "censor". Is it better when I put it in quotes?

Thanks. My current penpal in Iraq is a medic. It's rubbing off!

Wouldn't it be hialrious if we were talking about the same guy?

Where in Iraq is he?

Of course, everyone over here is a little nuts.

Perhaps I was wrong and FR is no different. I for one thought that we had differing opinions and hashed it out in a logical and reasonable manner. Am I the only one?

Have you noticed that you aren't banned and everyone can read your replies? The truth is that people are having fun batting you around because it's just too easy. There's no reason to ban you, except it would be an act of mercy intended solely to spare you.

I can't seem to stop eating these pistachio nuts.

They're kind of addicting.

Apparently I am not very eloquent because, I seem to be expressing things that are different from what I am writing.

Only slightly. Instead of an entity(the web site administrator) choosing which speech is acceptable and what is not the users do.

A site administrator can only impact his own site. You are free to go elsewhere and state your opinion or start your own site.

Whearas government censorship can keep you from stating your opinion anywhere. So the difference is hardly slight as you claim - there is a vast difference.

Your writing is fine. Your underlying concepts are the problem.

They're actually kind of small, unlike the spiders and the flies here. But they breed out of the {shudder!} Tigris River.

Apparently I am not very eloquent

It would help if you could stop substituting verbosity for eloquence.

because, I seem to be expressing things that are different from what I am writing.

That is a terrible disconnect, and it must get you in a lot of trouble. I can only imagine what your job resume must look like.

I have. Such as your claim that government censorship and a site admin blocking certain viewpoints are only slightly different.

Ok, it would be like having "ChristiansMassacredTonsOfPeacefulJewsAndMuslims" as your name on FR. It's true, but also a sign of an agenda, usually. We'd ban you too. I'd advice you to not go to liberal websites. If you do, be polite and nice. I've gotten a few nice (polite, actually debated some, saw how stupid they are) debates by being really cooperative and friendly. (Even on DU, Fun :)
