fwiw, the best source for most of us, when we start to seek our ancestors, is to ask the eldest of the women in our families. they usually have forgotten more family history than we younger folk know.

in my case (over 25 years ago) my Great Aunt Millie remembered his birth date, place of birth & what unit he served with.

with that data, i was able to locate land records, his tax records, marriage certificate & his CSA service & pension records, etc.

STAND nobody cares, it's like a lizard saying his ancestor was a tyrannosaurus rex.

Only in your case he was just another private.
