a car traveling in front of Osden hit the bear, which ran off into the woods and was not found. Osden was trying to avoid that collision and crashed, police said.

The bear didn't cause the accident that killed the motorcyclist. Rather, it sounds like the motorcyclist was following the car too closely.

Yet another (non)survival-of-the-(non)fittest story.

Speaking for all Dakotans, I was surprised that there were any woods left east of the Ohio river.

How is it the bear's fault the guy wasn't wearing a helmet?

Well, not to be too picky on a poor dead guy, but traveling too fast is what caused the crash...

This is a bit off topic, but since it's related to Connecticut wildlife I'll toss it in... I live in a fairly rural part of Fairfield County (the lot sizes here are a bit smaller, though, typically 3 acres, but most of the town is taken up by forested reservoir property), and a while back I discovered a (relatively) huge pile of some kind of animal droppings on my driveway. I'm pretty sure that it was not put there by a bear (or by a human being, either, for that matter).

While there are a number of horses in the neighborhood, it looks to be too small to have been left by a horse. It looks like it's too large to have been left by a dog (but then who knows what Coyote scat looks like). It's not out of the question, though, that it may have been deposited by a moose. Or maybe not. Got any idea of who in this state can give an informed opinion on the subject of scat identification? Maybe the UCONN agricultural extension service, or the CT DEP? I have photographic evidence only...
