HOUSTON TODDLER KILLED IN CARJACKING
The Houston Chronicle ^ | 14 June 2006

Posted on 06/14/2006 8:13:20 AM PDT by MeneMeneTekelUpharsin

Police are searching for two men who carajcked a family's SUV overnight and then ran over the family's toddler as they took off, according to television news reports this morning. The theft happened on Jensen near Sadler in northeast Houston as the father pulled into a car wash parking lot to use a payphone. He was then approached by two men, who demanded money and then the family's SUV. The suspects allegedly told everyone to get out of the car, including three young children.

Police told television reporters that the child was run over in the confusion. The toddler was reportedly about to celebrate her second birthday in just a few days. She was taken to the hospital where she died. Police are looking for suspects in the stolen white Chevy Suburban with license plate number 13BNW2. The family described the suspects as two black males, in their mid-20s.

I just love it when people who weren't even there know just exactly what they would have done.

It is called training.

If you have none then you might think about getting some.

The situation couldn't have gone much worse unless you feel that only one child being murdered is okay. Better than two and the father gets to live. Yep he picked a great outcome.

I pick two dead goblins.

I would rather get killed defending my family than letting them meet harm because I was a coward.

Amen. If I have to die a horrible, pain filled death to keep them alive... I'd consider it a good trade.

"I would rather get killed defending my family than letting them meet harm because I was a coward."

Ah, so now you know this guy is a coward? Does the fact that he didn't kill both guys or get killed himself make him a coward in your eyes? Should he have attacked the guys and gotten killed even if he wasn't armed (it sounds like he wasn't)? Would that have made him a hero? How about if he attacked them and they killed the whole family? Would that REALLY make him a hero?

Of course it's not all right that one child is dead. But unless you were there...

A white family should not even be driving on Jensen Dr. at night, much less stop the car and get out. Tragedy!

OK, this makes sense. I'm sure the bad guys would agree to leave the rest of your family alone if you'd only agree to suffer a pain-filled death. Would you bargain with them before you did it? "Hey guys, if I attack you now will you just let my wife and kids go?" Or would you just assume they be really decent about it?

You aren't even trying to make sense now. Would you rather everyone just not fight back against criminals? "Oh please Mr. Bad Guy. Don't hurt me..."

Yeah... That works so well.

Don't be an idiot.

"Bravado? This guy capitulated, as you suggested, and his kid ended up dead. How could this have been any worse if he'd fought BACK?"

Hmmm, let me think. That's a tough one. How about I attack these guys unarmed and they not only beat the crap out of me or kill me, I make them so mad that they also kill my wife and three kids? Or rape my wife and then kill her?

I realize that the best outcome would have been for this guy to have been armed (I've seen no evidence that he was) and to somehow have gotten the drop on these two and killed them. One child dead is not acceptable in any way whatsoever. The perps should be strung up. But it's just plain stupid to be second-guessing this guy or calling him a coward. Have any of you been in the spot he was?

Now you're a mind-reader. You know for a fact that's what this guy was thinking? You never considered that maybe he was thinking that if he stayed cool and let the guys have the vehicle, they wouldn't hurt his family? That maybe he wasn't even thinking about himself at all?

How about you take it upon yourself to BE armed? That too much to ask? A bit like a bodily function, self defense is about as personal as it gets. Specifically because of situations like this.

I've had to draw down before. Yeah. Guess what? I didn't get robbed/attacked/raped/assaulted either. The punk ran off when he found out I wasn't easy pickings.

Sounds like the family was Hispanic. Last name Garcia. Uncle's name Medina. They actually live in the neighborhood.

"Must be black on white crime as the races are not mentioned..."

Wrong. Black on Hispanic.

In fact, that is probably EXACTLY what he was thinking. And look what happened. Should be proof enough that even if you don't resist, you can STILL get hurt, so you may as well resist.

I was commenting on the idea that it was a black on white crime. It is horrible and tragic that it happened to any family of any color.

"How about you take it upon yourself to BE armed? "

Gosh, you know you're right. It's clear to me now that because this guy wasn't armed he was a coward and a criminal mollycoddler. He probably didn't even care about the child who was killed; he was only worried about whether he would get hurt.

"I've had to draw down before. Yeah. Guess what? I didn't get robbed/attacked/raped/assaulted either. The punk ran off when he found out I wasn't easy pickings."

Did the punk already have a gun in your face, as apparently happened here (according to police)? Were there two of them with guns? Did you have four small children, not all of whom were actually capable of fleeing on their own once you started fighting back? Just curious.

I also think it's terrible no matter who's involved. Losing a child is the most painful thing I can imagine. I am always amazed by the automatic assumption among some (not you) in any case like this that if color isn't mentioned it must be part of the great conspiracy to downplay black on white crime. That assumption often turns out to be wrong.

Ah, so now you know this guy is a coward?

It is quite obvious that I was refering to myself.

But unless you were there...

Five little words that cowards always hide behind.

Here is the post# 40 where a question was posed.

For you Texans out there, what would have been the charges if the father had pulled out his .38 cal and drilled both of they?

I answered the question to the best of my ability based upon my training. The situation would have been vastly different if it had been my family rather than his.

1) I would have been armed and ready because I always am.
2) Only a damn fool would have been doing anything in that part of Houston unarmed.
3) Having a CHL and training I sure as hell would not give up my vehicle containing my family to two or ten of these thugs.

I didn't "need to be there" to know how I would react. Believe it or not but some of us take our responsibility to our family seriously.

This father would NEVER be billed in Texas for stopping this threat with lethal force.

True.

Nice try. Point out anywhere I've called this guy a "coward".

You on the other hand... advocating non-violent compliance with your attackers wishes. You are a coward.

In my case, I was pumping gas. He tried to pull a knife. I'd seen him coming though and had already had my hand on my pistol. Situational awareness can go a long way to keep from being jumped.

Get some training in self defense tactics before you even think about expounding further on the subject.

What do you want to bet that if we ever catch these murderers we find they have a long criminal history?
