Given Houston Baker's conduct in response to the lax case, Duke would probably be better off not hiring anymore black professors, as would other universities. The black professors I've seen and heard about are mostly about being black, talking about it on and on, forcing students to regurgitate the same bilge they teach, all to the exclusion of real and more important academic emphasis. An exception would be Walter Williams at George Mason, and there are likely others, but they are not the norm. Baker is.
Of course, because there are not enough qualified blacks for universities to hire in their science, engineering and medical departements. Thus, to achieve racial diversity in their hiring practices, universities are forced to hire blacks in departments without objective stardards.
I would be willing to bet that over half the professors in the science department at NCCU are white. There simply aren't enough qualified blacks to fill all the teaching positions even at historically black colleges.
The sad thing is that black students are roped into majoring in Afro-American Studies, when if they had majored in engineering, they could have walked straight out of college into any one of a hundred engineering firms desperate to find qualified black applicants. The Houston Baker's of the world are actually doing immeasurable harm to blacks.
I would say that University's show not hire black professor merely for being black. This law professor step up and criticized the lineup which is a good thing.
Universities should hire good professor of any race. For a black professors to be a good professors, they need to be strong enough to profess and not run scared of being called an oreo, uncle Tom, acting white etc. They are in a tough situation, but they chose education, ie getting a doctoral or other terminal degree, as a someone born into a subgroup who are generally anti-education.
