"Microsoft again warned today that customers face security risks if they use some of its ageing operating systems after it ends support for them next month."

Can someone explain to me how you would face security risks after MS ends the support? How would there be anymore security risks than before they ended support?

Aside from the fact that 9x is wide-open to attack anyway, it means no more security fixes.
