Germany, the hosts of the 18th FIFA World Cup, kick off the tournament on Friday against Costa Rica in Munich (LIVE on ABC at 11:00AM ET).
This represents a change to a tradition established back in 1974 which saw the defending world champions having the honour of getting the proceedings under way. The other two teams in Group A, Poland and Ecuador, will fight it out later in the evening.
At least I can breath through these games.
The England match tomorrow will be TENSE for me....I'm still tense from the England/France Euro 2004 match!
Freddy Adu?
The Michele Wie of American Soccer
All hype - no results.
Leave the thread, or everyone will say that you are gay.
Give Freddy a break, physically he has it, but he is not mature yet, and still needs to pay some dues.
I'll reserve judgement until he is in his 20's.
Uhhh, they're both 16!! Patience.
I don't think that Freddy Adu made the team. Do you know something I don't, or not?
I don't have many channels on my TV. So I have to watch the game in Spanish. Oh well, still much better than watching nothing.
He didn't, and he wasn't ever going to.
After he pitched a fit with DC United last year over playing time, he pretty much assured he wouldn't be there.
I think he got a cap or two in some friendlies, but honestly, you gonna bring him in over Convey or Wolf or Ching or Dempsey?
Besides, this the last cup for Pope and Reyna and Lewis and Keller.
He definately needs to mature. I think he would be better served playing in Europe where he'll learn a little bit of humility.
Freddy did not make the U.S. team - not even a point of consideration.
No way - not even close
The halftime commercials on Mexican TV are better anyway. Who needs to listen?
Is the game over? I bet GER -1.5....
Sky Sports also has got a live update:

Klose.
3-1
So for all the soccer haters up there, we'll just say that Germany leads Costa Rica 14-7 at halftime. Maybe that will make them feel better. :)
Oops, make that 21-7.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL!
KLOSE! After some brillant buildup play and a mistake by the Ticos keeper.
And also I get to hear Gol, Gol, Gol, Gol, Gol, Gollllll! :)
I can still hear him, "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! RRRROBERRRTOOOO BAGGIOOOO!" followed by some rapid-fire Spanish stated with such emotion that one could imagine tears running down his face in joy.
Cantor is awesome, he did some matches in english, but his command of the language wasn't enough.
The Univision feed is not showing up good, the color is all washed out.
