Germany, the hosts of the 18th FIFA World Cup™, kick off the tournament on Friday against Costa Rica in Munich (LIVE on ABC at 11:00AM ET).

This represents a change to a tradition established back in 1974 which saw the defending world champions having the honour of getting the proceedings under way. The other two teams in Group A, Poland and Ecuador, will fight it out later in the evening.

My wretched syntax! ;-) It'll be a great game - the English live for football and in my youth, the English league games were always a blast to watch.

I’m disappointed, nothing changed in their attitude from Korea and Japan. They mentally sucks, played quite good till Ecuador scored, later I saw only panic and disaster. We have only two defenders (Bak and Zewlakow) and even they played nothing but defense. Midfields played zero, Szymkowiak and Soboloweski lost almost all the balls and crosses and Ramoski’s favorite pass was directed to our goalie… Zurawski doesn’t play well either in offense.

I think that we need Jelen to replace Sobolewski and Dudka to replace Baszczynski. (4-4-2) Of course they must start to play on their normal level and stop to be losers!

That's alright. Yesterday, I warned about Drogba playing for Ghana :-P

Go England.

Over to the new thread :-)

Cheers.

What about Olisadebe? Too old?

Actually we have better players than him. He had many injuries and rarely played in Panathinakos while we scored almost always three goal in the qualification campaign.

Perhaps Olisadebe will play in Poland in the next season, so you can figure out why he was not even a candidate.

1 goal by England in the first minute. Great defense by Paraguay - England had a great offensive team with lots of first half scoring opportunities but couldn't convert them into goals. For Paraguay, it was the other way around; they played strong defense with few chances to score. Stoppage time added due to injuries as a result of fouls. We'll see what the second half holds after halftime's over. Beautiful day in Frankfurt am Main.

Scoreless second half. England played it safe and despite some valiant efforts in the opening minutes by Paraguay, they were never a factor and faded fast. 2 minutes of stoppage time. England was heavily favored here and put this one away.
