This is very scary. I had lots of trouble with my epidural. The anesthesiologist had to try 4 times before she got the needle in the right space. Very painful! Happily for me, I didn't get an infection from the incompetence. I did, however, turn to my husband and tell him 'I'm going to die now'. Then I passed out. Revived quickly and promptly threw up in my oxygen mask. Childbirth is sometimes a really risky proposition. My son's heart stopped and I underwent an emergency c-section. He is fine, but we were apprehensive for months about the possibility of oxygen deprivation with him. The nurse in recovery told me that we were really lucky that we hadn't tried for a home birth. My son was trussed in his umbilical cord. The whole day was very traumatic. Stories like this make me realize that we were lucky to both come out OK.
