Former Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox came to Pittsburgh on Tuesday to get his Super Bowl XL ring, but he won't be staying for long.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that Maddox has sold his house and moved to Roanoke, Texas, where he can play golf all year.
Maddox said he wants to make golf a full-time endeavor. He plans to hit the mini-tour circuit, with the hope of eventually qualifying for the Nationwide Tour.
Last month, Maddox came close to making the cut for the EDS Byron Nelson Championship.
Members of the Steelers team that beat Seattle in Super Bowl XL picked up their rings on Sunday, during a private gourmet dinner and concert at Heinz Field.
Maddox did not attend that event, nor did he visit the White House and meet President Bush with his former teammates on Friday.

Thanks for the pic and the link to the post gazette story. It surprised me that they got them so soon. Other teams have a dinner just prior to leaving for traing camp. As far as being garish, I don't think so. Compared to the other two Five-Time winners, San Francisco's fifthe ring look hideous. The center field of the top looks like a tumor. It just doesn't look right. Dallas' fifth looks great. Just a big star done with five pear shaped diamonds surrounded by numerous smaller rounds. The outer frame is similar to what the Steelers did. I am a little disappointed with the shanks. Looks rather simple compared with most of the last 15 rings. IMO, the Patriots have some of the prettiest rings ever to have been won. I can say that even though I'm a Cowboys fan. I look at each one objectively. BTW, does anyone know what jewelery company they went to for the rings?

Yikes on the 3-putt. I know them well, too.
No high horse here. Just thought the comment about Maddox chasing a dream being a joke was rough beings I was on one of the Nationwide Tour's predecessors.

Here's a soup bowl ring in the form of roses - is that better for you?
"tad guady" - I never heard such nonsense...would you rather they cross-stiched something?

"I think he was embarrassed to even show up. I think he realizes he didn't win a damned thing. I think, however, that if he really had class, he would have declined a ring he didn't earn."
It's a team sport. It's also a sport where depth makes all the difference and having a proven back up QB is worth its weight in gold. The fact that he had a bad season is irrelevant to his deserving a ring. Your comment can't be qualified only for QB's who played terrible, you're nailing every second stringer in every team sport as not deserving. I don't think he showed any class either but for a different reason but I don't know all the facts. He's pissed off...all the more reason to show your face and stand up straight.

home early - Mrs Dupa has doc appointment - but out to scout the MILF at the park - have to chat & run.
But I'm still right about the ring....

Nah.... it (daydreaming comment) was just said in jest. Tommy is an acquaintance of mine and I wish him well. But it will be a chore for him.
I know golf very well, and I know of all the excellent players that never get close to the money-making tours ........ he has a lot of work ahead.
But, good luck to him.

(Note: If you have design issues you have to take them up with Rooney, Roethlisberger, or Bettis.)

To: PBRSTREETGANG
I don't have any design issues with their ring. What I posted was my personal opinions based on an objective appraisal of each ring. The one thing I am curious about is how Roethlisberger was crammed on one of the shanks. The last name of each recipient is on the ring. We're talking about a space at least one half to five-eights of an inch. Maybe smaller. I'd love to see how that was done. Or did he just have Ben put there. Still, it's a very pretty ring. The trophies on top look good even though a couple of them came off Dallas.
