I wouldn't use Xubuntu on a bleeding edge computer - it's intended for low-end machines. Try the regular Ubuntu distro.

It works :). No, I'm not posting from that computer...it's about 8 inches away, but it has otherwise been a solid distro. I have 2 250gb sata drives in that particular machine. When I want to play Oblivion or another Windows game, I go into the bios and set the primary boot device to the 250gb disk with XP on it. Most of the time, I flip it to the other disk. My point is that distro of Xubunto is solid, runs good and until I try it, should be able to rip DVDs.
