I guess I'm going to get you started on coyotes. ;^) We have them around our area, the other night we heard one as close as our backyard. My 6 & 4yr old want to sleep outside this weekend with me in a tent. Is there any precautions I should take? A gun and knife will definitely be will me.

Just that they have greatly expanded their range, basically coast to coast now, proximity makes for familiarity, makes for boldness. I think your kitties and puppies have more to worry about than your kids. Rabies shots aren't fun even if they don't have to be given in the stomach anymore (I think) so reinforce wild animals no petting, or even approaching.

I have a cat I dearly love that I cannot keep inside no matter how hard I try. I have to have a dog run attached to the house for my Australian Cattle Dog (we never could house break her!), and I have added a roof to it to keep the cats in. The darned cat will ALWAYS find a way out! I have been able to catch him at it a few times, but usually he just sorta gets OUT. I am terrified of the things that might get him, it scares me to death! I don't think people take the term "Wild" life seriously enough.
