I know you're mostly ignoring modern continuity, but Superman & Lois have been married for about a decade now.And pretty much the entire basis of the "Lois & Clark" TV show was that the pair was hot for each other. This isn't ignorance, this is just people flat out ignoring reality.
(Well, as real as a show about a human-ish alien who flies can shoots heat beams from his eyes can be.)

I have no clue about modern Superman continuity. The last Superman comics I picked up was shortly after the Byrne reset. It left me cold at the time. That's coming up on 20 years now? I'm almost 2 decades behind the times when it comes to both Marvel & DC Comics.
I don't miss them at all. I get a lot of enjoyment from the Marvel Essentials reprints and the more recent Showcase presents DC reprints.
I'm oldschool. I wander into Forbidden Planet in nyc about two times a year (in my day, at the old locale, I used to go maybe 2 or 3 times a week), check the shelves of new comics, and no reaction. I hear there are some good titles, of course, but nothing on the shelves compels me to want to buy.
