My current speciality is expansion into the Ohio Valley and British Illinois and the last days of Spanish Illinois, and the development of the westward fur trade up to the beginning of the Rendezvous period, ca. 1820 more or less. Interested in the westward migration out of Pennsylvania and such into Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and into Missouri, too, especially St. Louis of the time of the Chouteaus and Manuel Lisa and the Astoria expedition. Got interested in it sort of as a development of reenacting, but I like it just because it's an interesting area to study.
Before that, my special area was sort of the economic development of the woolen trade and it's cultural and political ramifications in 13th and 14th c. England. But I didn't get to continue on that...I took a ten year detour grading bad English compositions and to care for a sick parent and then to get married to a guy as nuts for history as I am.
And he lets me buy all the history books I want...
now if i could just find me a "graceful belle, of a certain age"......
